Music has a way of connecting us to life events, memories and emotions. Every song written was initially felt, experienced, and birthed by a writer hoping that someone, somewhere, connects with the story or lyrics. Cherie Call’s I am a Homeless Song conveys this passion and dream in a beautiful way.Songwriting is a talent Cherie has been polishing since her early teens.
“I can’t keep from writing songs. It’s a huge part of who I am. Writing songs is kind of how I make sense of my world. So I’m always going to do it, no matter what,” says Cherie Call.
In college Cherie picked up a guitar for the first time and realized the acoustic sound was just the medium she needed to bring together her storytelling lyrics and the alt-country genre she loves so much. Cherie says that artists like Alison Krauss, Sarah Groves, James Taylor and Mary Chapin Carpenter and others like them have played a part in shaping her style. Call’s beautifully clear strong voice is a breath of fresh air; decidedly not the “angry barbie sound” as her husband calls that whiney-teen-angst sound that’s been popular for the last decade.
Cherie and her husband reside in Utah where he owns a sound company which keeps him on the road a lot, touring with bands or corporate events. Joe and Cherie have four children aged one to eight. When asked about her kids and if she’s noticed them inheriting her love and talent for music Cherie shares some wisdom: “I think they’re starting to realize that not everyone has a music house like we do, but they love music. I try to make sure I’m not making them become a mini-me. I want them to figure out the things they want to do and if it’s different than me, that’s great.”

The award-winning Wildflower! Performing Songwriter contest encourages the growth of the art of independent performing singer-songwriters. The genres include Acoustic, Americana, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, Country and Folk. The Singer Songwriter Stage is located in the Bank of America Theatre within the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts.
