They say that everything in Texas is bigger, and Crystal Yate’s voice certainly lends credence to that claim. The soul and gospel music genres of the South’s influence on Crystal’s style is evident in her smooth full-bodied vocals and the heart and soul that goes into her music. When asked about her genre, Yates says that she is more soulful country than anything, and I wholeheartedly agree.

A transplant to McKinney, TX, Crystal was born and raised in Niceville, FL. She and her husband, Will, took a leap of faith when they moved to Texas to pursue her musical carrier. Since that time, Yates has produced a full album, Love Wins, and in October she released an EP titled I Believe. In 2014 she was the winner of the prestigious Texaco Country Showdown competition where she was named best new act in country music.

When asked about the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival and what she hopes to gain from the competition Crystal said “You know, I don’t enter a lot of competitions, but Wildflower! is different. They are legit. They are classy and respectable and I just want to get to know the people involved because I respect that community; the people who put it on and the songwriters who come.”

Music is about passion, what we feel inside, but often can’t say and Crystal’s songwriting and singing gives you goosebumps when you listen.

“I hope to inspire people to do what they do with passion and creativity. I live for people to feel human.” – Crystal Yates

This devotion to her craft and the people who enjoy it is evident in every song Crystal sings. She really wants you to feel what she feels; connecting with the joy and the pain, realizing the raw beauty of this life we live.
