The Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival is more than rock bands, groovy vibes, and live concerts. Since 2003 the annual event also invites students in Kindergarten thru 6th grade to participate in an art contest. Last year more than 1,100 students returned a drawing for the “Pooch Portraits” contest.

The 2016 theme is “Picasso Portraits” because it is hip to be square and Pablo Picasso believed that “Every child is an artist.” The contest is free and Wildflower! provides 12” square white poster boards for students to design their portrait.

Cubism style shows all sides of an object in one drawing and artists are encouraged to use pencils, crayons, markers, or paint.

Entries must have an official form attached to the back of the square and delivered by April 25, 2016 to the Community Events office, located at 2100 E. Campbell Road, Suite 100, Richardson, TX. Local artists will then judge the portraits and ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention in each grade level. The winners will be notified by May 13 and their work will be displayed in the Kidz Korner May 20-22 at Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival.

Students may pick-up their entries from the Community Events office the week of May 30-June 3, 2016. Don’t forget to share a picture of the portrait tagging #WAMFest2016 on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. The complete guidelines and contact information for “Picasso Portraits” is detailed on the website: https://wildflowerfestival.com/StudentArtContest.html.
